Pouring piping hot brew into a carafe in making homemade iced tea is the quickest way to shatter glass.  To avoid cracking, remember to put a metal ladle or a large spoon inside the carafe before pouring the hot liquid.  Metal absorbs heat fast so your carafe stays crack-free.
