Hades 2 is jam-packed with places to discover, and not all of them start at Erebus. If you’ve already unlocked the ward at the Crossroads, you’ll know that the surface is available as an alternative path to take, filled with its own vistas, rewards, and challenges. Sadly, protagonist Melinoë won’t be able to stay there for long without some help.

Thanks to her family curse, Melinoë will gradually lose health while on the surface. If you’re lucky, you might be able to get to the third room before your HP hits zero. In short, you first need to complete an incantation that subsidizes the curse, so you can explore the grounds above without the penalty. If you’re wondering how to survive on the surface in Hades 2, here are the steps to follow, including how to complete the Unraveling a Fateful Bond incantation.

If you thought unlocking the ward in the Crossroads was laborious enough, well, that was merely the first step. You won’t be able to make it far on the surface until you take care of Melinoë’s curse.

To remove the health penalty and survive on the surface in Hades 2, you need to do a few runs on the surface until Moros, who is Doom Incarnate, appears on a death screen. He will make mention of your curse, and grant you the Unraveling a Fateful Bond incantation after a brief chat.

We’re getting closer, but there are a few things we’ll need first to complete the recipe.

How to get Thalamus for Unraveling a Fateful Bond in Hades 2

The Unraveling a Fateful Bond incantation asks for a total of four ingredients. 2x Lotus, which you can pick up during your visits to Oceanus. 2x Moss, which you can also pick up during your visits to the surface (even with the curse, there’s usually one in the first or second room, so make a quick trip and grab them). 2x Nightshade, which you can get seeds for by using the Silver Spade tool in Erebus. And, lastly, 2x Thalamus, the most annoying of the bunch.

In order to get Thalamus in Hades 2, you’ll need two things: stick with the Silver Spade as your tool for Underworld runs, and enter Chaos Gates to meet up with Chaos whenever they appear. As usual, if you gifted them Nectar, equip their Keepsake to increase the chances of stumbling upon their gates.

Eventually, Chaos will mention that they felt the presence of Moros, and that they’re aware of the secret he’s shared with you. After a brief conversation, Chaos will offer you Chaos Seeds, and make it so there’s always a digging spot in subsequent visits to their realm to grab more.

Once you’re back at the crossroads, go ahead and plant the Origin Seeds. At first you’ll only get one, but you get two Thalamus a pop. As such, if you already have the other ingredients, you’re all set to perform the incantation. You’re now free to explore the surface without any penalties against you in Hades 2.
