Final Fantasy VII Rebirth packs a ton of different ways to equip and spec out your characters with higher stats and new abilities. One such way is Steal which, as the name implies, lets you steal stuff from enemies. While it’s not an essential ability to use, Steal can come in handy for snagging certain items, equipment, and crafting components.

Where to get Steal materia

To steal something in Rebirth, you’ll need the Steal command, which is granted from the Steal materia. Slot that sucker in something and you can snag stuff from your foes. You can get Steal materia from shops, Solemnitude Manor in Corel Prison, and from Yuffie’s starting loadout.

Steal is affected by your luck stat. So combining it with Luck Up materia and characters with naturally high Luck is wise.

What should you steal in Rebirth?

I think it’s fair to say that Stealing is a little undercooked in Rebirth. You’re not going to access wildly broken farming resources through it, or even rare items. Plus, some of the most useful stuff to snag from foes are items, which means you can’t use them in Hard mode (Rebirth’s end-game difficulty that locks you out of using things like potions, ethers, offensive items like grenades, and more).

Celeris is one of the most abundantly stealable items (and it’s very useful)

Celeris lets you cast Haste on a target. This speeds up your attack speed. While you can cast this as a spell with Time materia, using an item doesn’t drain MP. You can steal Celeris from the following enemies (the Fiend Intel enemies are the most farmable):

Aggrevrikon: Fiend Intel 5 in Grasslands

Bandit: Fought during Phenomenon Intel 3 in Grasslands

Beck: Fought during Phenomenon Intel 4 in Grasslands

Burke: Fought during Phenomenon Intel 4 in Grasslands

Butch: Fought during Phenomenon Intel 4 in Grasslands

Levridon: Fought during the “O Chicken, Where Art Thou” side-quest

Levrikon: Found roaming in the Grasslands

You can steal crafting components from enemies

There are a few items worth using this materia for. To start, many monsters carry items used in crafting via the Item Transmuter option in the main menu. To see which items an enemy has that’s stealable, simply Assess them and you’ll see what items are available on the left side of the screen.

You can check the stats of any enemy you’ve previously scanned, which includes what items are stealable (and morphable using the Morph materia) in the menu under Enemy Intel.

You can steal helpful restorative items

Giga-potions, which restore 3,000 HP, are also very handy to have around. You can steal these from Devil Riders, which appear during the “Hustle and Grind” side-quest. Mega-potions aren’t as good (they only restore 1,500 HP), but they’re still good to have. You can steal these from Rude and the smaller Tonberries that spawn during the Tonberry King boss fight. The latter is the best opportunity to farm these.

Turbo Ethers are wildly helpful during an Easy, Normal, or Dynamic difficulty run in Rebirth as they’ll restore your MP and keep you out in the world fighting for longer (they can also save you against a boss fight in particularly dire situations where magic can make a remarkable difference in battle).

You can snag Turbo Ethers from two enemies: 2-C SOLDIERS and Abzu. The first is only fightable in the Temple of the Ancients (Chapter 13), while the second is a boss fight during the arena showdown in Chapter 12.

Elixirs, which fully restore HP and MP, are also great. You can steal these from Roche during his boss fights.

Snag the Fortitude Ring from Reno

The Fortitude Ring is an accessory that’ll raise a character’s vitality and spirit by 50. You can steal this item from the boss fight with Remo.

Steal might not feel immediately useful the first time you get it, but it can help you keep stock of more than a few handy items, especially on multiple runs of the campaign.
